Ride of the Week 3/25/19 - 3/31/19

I started this week's Ride of the Week up north at West Beach Vista county park. Its a nice little parking area with views of the Olympic Mountains, Strait of Juan De Fuca and the San Juan Islands. I was confused about parking there because of the Washington State Park sign. The sign made it seem as if the parking area was for the neighboring Joseph Whidbey State Park in which you would need to display a Discover Pass to park there. However, I was informed, by the freindly people who parked there to walk their dog, the parking area was county property.

With the parking issue cleared up I started my ride heading south on West Beach Road. I love riding West Beach Road. The hill climbs are challenging, the descents are exhilarating and the scenery spectacular. I crossed the hi way at Libby Road. Crossing 525 is always stressful and can be treacherous. Be careful there's a lot of things going on at this intersection.  Heading north on 525 through San de Fuca I pasted Penn Cove Shellfish dock

and the 3 Sisters Market

then turned onto another road I enjoy Penn Cove Road.  Penn Cove Road rolls along the north side of Penn Cove. Across the cove is a view of Coupeville and in the distance a view of the Cascade Mountains.

Penn Cove Road turns into Scenic Heights Road and then into Oak Harbor. All along the way a beautiful back drop to be riding amongst. Through Oak Harbor and out to the Navy base. The jets were flying low and they LOUD. Around the perimeter of the base and back to the West Beach Vista parking area.

I rode well on this ride. The legs were good, the lungs were good and I had the strength to attack the hill climbs. Great scenery and great riding is why this ride is the Ride of the Week.
